JP “Elektroprivreda HZ HB“ d.d. Mostar is the only electric power company in Bosnia and Herzegovina that generates electricity exclusively from renewable sources. However, during certain periods, particularly in the summer months, electricity for end customers must be purchased from the market. Consequently, prior to the implementation of the guarantees of origin system, there was no legal framework to assure customers that every kilowatt-hour supplied was “renewable.”

In response to customer demand for assurance that the electricity provided was generated from renewable sources—along with a desire for transparency regarding consumption structure and carbon footprint—JP “Elektroprivreda HZ HB“ d.d. Mostar has become the first company in Bosnia and Herzegovina to offer “green models” to its customers within the market supply framework, effective January 1, 2023. These models are available to all customers, excluding those in the household category.

When a customer opts for the “green electricity supply model,” they receive a guarantee that every kilowatt-hour consumed is generated entirely from plants utilizing renewable sources for power generation.

According to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources and Efficient Cogeneration in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the only way to guarantee the renewable nature of the supplied power is through coverage by guarantees of origin issued by an authorized body—the Renewable Energy Sources and Efficient Cogeneration Operator.

Customers who contract the “green models” will pay a fee of 0.05 pfennigs per kilowatt-hour and will receive assurance that the power supplied to them is fully supported by the guarantees of origin issued by the Renewable Energy Sources and Efficient Cogeneration Operator.

Additionally, customers supplied under the “green models” framework are entitled to use the Company’s trademark “green models” for marketing purposes. This allows them to display the trademark on their letterheads, packaging, websites, and other promotional materials for the duration of the contractual relationship.
