The pumped hydroelectric power plant ČAPLJINA is a pumped -storage hydroelectric power plant that collects its catchment inflow water and the Trebišnjica River water, and as such makes its contribution to the security of the power system and to the coverage of peak loads. With its two vertically placed pumps – turbines, PSHPP Čapljina can operate as a reversible power plant in periods of weaker hydrology and during lower system load, pumping water from the lower to the upper compensation reservoir. Due to the above facts, it is clear that we cannot measure its value only by the kilowatt-hours of power generated. In addition to the pump drive, the power plant can also operate in the compensator drive, that is, it can produce or take reactive energy from the network with the turbine and pump direction of rotation of the generator.
