MOSTAR Hydroelectric Power Plant was put into operation in 1987 as one of a series of hydroelectric power plants that belong to the system of hydroelectric power plants in the Neretva catchment area, as the last power plant on the Neretva River. In the planned Middle Neretva Project from 1953, Mostar HPP, along with Grabovica HPP and Salakovac HPP, is part of a complex project of three dam power plants, each of which has a different energy role, and Mostar HPP is expected to play a role in regulating more uniform operation and leveling the operation of upstream hydroelectric power plants. Since the commissioning of the first generator back in 1987, Mostar HPP operated for only five years until the war in 1992, when it suffered significant damage. All facilities were out of order, the engine room was completely submerged, and the rest of the equipment was destroyed, so it was completely under water for three years. Thanks primarily to the workers of the Electricity Generation Division of the JP “Elektroprivreda HZ HB” d.d. Mostar, it was reconstructed and repaired in just 7 months. Today, Mostar HPP has a high level of operational readiness.
