The Hydroelectric Power Plant MOSTARSKO BLATO is located southwest of the City of Mostar and uses energy potential at the head of 178 m between Mostarko Blato and Bišće Polje, i.e. the Neretva River valley. The hydroelectric power plant was designed as a component of the overall use of space and resources of the karst complex Mostarsko Blato, where the first preliminary design for this hydroelectric power plant was created in the in the seventies of the 20th century. At the same time, the technical solution of flood protection is combined and coordinated with the solution of hydropower utilization, and therefore this power plant, in addition to the function of using water resources for the power generation, and at the same time, it also has a flood protection function. The HPP Mostarsko Blato construction began in September 2006, and it was put into operation on 13 May 2010. Due to the number of its facilities and the complexity of their construction, HPP Mostarsko Blato was a very serious and demanding multi-purpose project.
The construction and commissioning of HPP Mostarsko Blato increased the total production of electricity in the power system of JP „Elektroprivreda HZ HB” d.d. Mostar by 10%.
